Melbourne University Basketball Club (MUBC) is seeking applications for the Head Coach of our Big V Championship Men’s team for the 2027 season.

Following a period of significant growth for the program, this is an exciting opportunity to lead one of Victoria’s premier university-linked basketball programs and build on the momentum established over recent seasons.

About MUBC

MUBC is one of Victoria’s largest senior basketball clubs, with a strong connection to The University of Melbourne and a growing presence in Victorian basketball.

Our Championship Men’s program has established itself as a competitive force within the Big V. After earning promotion to Championship division in 2023, our Senior Men’s program has achieved winning records in all four seasons, culminating in a 3rd place finish in the 2026 season.

We are now looking for a coach capable of building on the recent success of the senior men’s program.

The Opportunity

The Head Coach will be responsible for leading the Championship Men’s program, with a primary focus on competitiveness and success at the highest level of Big V basketball.

The successful candidate will have significant responsibility for establishing the team's playing style, managing the playing group, leading the coaching staff and preparing the team to compete successfully throughout the Big V season.

We are looking for a coach who:

• Has a strong track record of success in senior or high-level representative basketball.

• Has the ability to lead a competitive senior program.

• Possesses strong tactical and technical knowledge of the game.

• Can aid in the recruitment, retention and development of a high-quality playing group.

• Has strong leadership, communication and organisational skills.

• Can establish a clear team identity, standards and culture.

• Is ambitious and motivated to compete for championships.

Why MUBC?

MUBC provides a coach with the opportunity to lead a well-established senior basketball program with genuine ambition to compete at the top end of Big V Championship Men’s division.

At MUBC, we empower our senior coaches with the autonomy to lead their programs, providing the support and resources to succeed while trusting them to shape the program’s identity, culture and direction.

The club has a strong university connection, a growing membership base and an increasingly prominent profile within Victorian basketball. We are committed to providing the support required to build a successful Championship Men’s program.

We are seeking a coach who shares that ambition and is ready to take ownership of the program and drive its next phase.

Requirements

Applicants must:

• Hold an appropriate Basketball Australia coaching qualification, or be willing to obtain the required qualification prior to the commencement of the 2027 season.

• Hold a current Working with Children Check (WWCC), or be willing to obtain one prior to commencing the role.

• Be available to fulfil the coaching commitments associated with the Big V Championship Men’s program.

• Meet all relevant MUBC, Melbourne University Sport and Basketball Victoria requirements.
